At first i was a bit nervous but lucky i had little experience of giving speech for my business and feel happy to meet up few long lost secondary school mate at BarCamp, also meet some new friends like Lionel Chew, Pik Sun, Hassim and many other interesting people who love to share and learn.

I start fall in love with unconference style BarCamp and looking forward to join the next camp targeted at Kuala Lumpur during February or March 2009.

Friendster.com had finally came out with their latest service update explain about what actually happened for their recently long schedule site maintenance.

According their official blog, friendster’s unscheduled downtime was due to a power outage at their outsourced data center in Santa Clara, California where Friendster’s servers are co-located along side approximately 50 other companies. As a result, Friendster, as well as a number of other online companies, experienced unscheduled and unavoidable downtime. At this time, Friendster is back online and their team is working quickly to restore everything back to normal.

Lastly, if you’ve received any on site messages or SMS text alerts regarding Friendser downtime or your friend count, please disregard them as they were initiated by members of our community and do not contain accurate information about what happened.

Some Frequently Asked Questions:

1) What happened to my friends?
Currently, the number of friends in the friends list is being displayed incorrectly.

2) Are my friends lost permanently?
No. The data for all friend connections is intact and is not lost.

3) When can this be fixed?
Friendster is currently working on this problem and we hope to have this fixed within 24 hours.

4) Can I still add friends while the problem has not yet been fixed?
Yes, users can still add new friends and use other features of the site.

Friendster should consider to have their official blog hosted in other server different from their online social networking server, so when similar unexpected case happend at least user and community able to read about what is the reason behind to prevent any unwanted spread of rumours.

1 ) Embedded videos! You can now copy/paste object tags from YouTube and Slide into your posts. More to come!

Lucky friendster unlock video embed very soon after upgrade from Movable Type to WordPress, a blog system that don’t allowed video embed should call a “Blog” , don’t you agree? Hopefully it will allowed other services in soon future!

Although friendster increase up to 70 WP themes selection now (previous only 21 themes) but i still think that not enough for satisfying 80 millions users!

Friendster blog should also consider auto include user Photo Albums that uploaded in their profile into user  blog’s “Media Library”, whereby easier for user to write blog post and easy pull / embed photos from their profile album.

Friendster.com, today announced that it has deployed support for the Facebook Platform on www.friendster.com as part of the Friendster Developer Program. Tens of thousands of developers can now introduce the applications and features they’ve built on the Facebook Platform to Friendster’s 80 million users around the world. Friendster is the first major social network and social website of any kind to deploy both the OpenSocial and Facebook de facto industry standards for the benefit of Friendster users and the developer community.

With support of developer applications on Facebook and the recent launch of OpenSocial support, companies and individual developers can now easily use the Facebook Platform, OpenSocial APIs or Friendster-developed APIs to deploy their applications, or “apps,” on Friendster. With over 60 million of its 80 million users in Asia, the Friendster Developer Program now provides an easy way for developers to reach the largest group of internet users on a single social network in Asia.

Developer applications on the Friendster network enrich the user experience by providing hundreds of new and interesting features to use and share, with new features added on a weekly basis. Friendster.com today
announced that it has deployed the OpenSocial standard application programming
interfaces (APIs) as part of the Friendster Developer Program. Companies and
individual developers can now use the OpenSocial standard to introduce their
applications, or features, to Friendster’s 75 million users around the
world.

OpenSocial support is a significant
enhancement and extension to the successful Friendster Developer Program,
launched in late 2007. Friendster was only the second major social network to
launch a robust developer platform, and since then, the Friendster Developer
Program has been successful with both users and developers alike. Since its
launch, over 10 million unique users have added “apps,” most users
add several apps, and about half a million apps are being added by users to
their profile pages each day. There are thousands of developers registered for
the Friendster Developer Program, there are about 2,000 members of the
Friendster Developer Platform Group on Friendster, over 450 apps have been
deployed on Friendster, and thousands more apps are currently under development
by third-party developers.

“With widespread support
throughout the industry, OpenSocial has become a de facto standard for
developers of social applications. OpenSocial makes it easier than ever for
developers to build and distribute their applications across multiple
destination sites like Friendster. Developers can spend less of their time on
integrating and more of their time on building interesting, useful, fun, and/or
compelling features,” said David Jones,
vice president of global marketing for Friendster. “Everybody wins
- users gain access to new features, developers can introduce their
innovations to the massive user bases of social networks, and social networks
gain third-party features to continue to drive up user engagement on social
networks.”

OpenSocial is a community-driven
initiative that continues to evolve with the help
of many developers, websites, and companies, including Google. Friendster, a
founding member of the OpenSocial initiative, has deployed APIs from version
0.7 of the OpenSocial specification, making it easy for existing OpenSocial
applications using version 0.7 to be launched on Friendster and reach
Friendster’s over 75 million users. Friendster also plans to support
additional OpenSocial APIs in the coming months, including the new 0.8 APIs.

“We are pleased that
Friendster has deployed OpenSocial APIs for the benefit of users and developers
alike,” said David Glazer, director of engineering at Google.
“Friendster’s launch is another major milestone in the adoption and
deployment of OpenSocial throughout the social web and around the world.
We’re particularly excited that OpenSocial is helping
Friendster bring new social applications to users in Asia,
and we look forward to seeing users embrace these apps.”
