Friendster.com upgrade it user blogging platform to WordPress now served as replacement of MovableType ! This is definitely a great move and allowed users to have more control of their friendster blog’s backend. I believe friendster using WPMU as the base as supporting multi million user for using new platform which i also playing on it recently on our coming project at Friendscino.com
The blog you’re reading now - Jerry Ong Community was also powered by Movable Type but after idea exchange with problogger like liewcf and hongkiat back in Barcamp, it actually give me an idea of converting my blog to WordPress and i’m still testing on it.
You can try it out yourself after login to your friendster account and go to http://www.friendster.com/blogs.php , click “My Blog Home” enter backend administration.
At this moment, wordpress plugin not yet installed or activated by friendster.com
User Settings
You can now add your friends as new user to your friendster blogs as “Administrator, Editor, Author, Contributor and Subscriber” this will allowed your friends, family or even group members can contribute to your blog! Navigate to “users” tab and try it!
Content Management
Youre allowed to create blog post, pages and also links which previous friendster blog only support blog post.
Themes and Widgets
Friendster Blog’s Support up to 21 WordPress Themes now, it doesn’t allowed you to upload or edit your own theme at the moment and hope it will open to user soon! You’re allowed to create widgets for your side bar and also change your header image color and font like normal wordpress backend.
Import and Export
This is important for people who would like to import content from their other blogs as well as export your friendster blog content to your new blogs, example self hosted domain like www.JerryOng.com
My Two Cents
WordPress indeed a beautiful code for blogging and happy to see friendster.com upgrade the user blog and allowed users to have more control on their own blog’s backend which the previous blog system lock all the function. There is still room to improve, example allowed user to upload or import their own blog template rather than limit it to 21 template; allowed own domain mapping also not a bad idea and it could be another revenue of friendster.com by selling domain name and provide premium hosting services! without domain mapping wouldn’t attract serious blogger to blog there with a long blog address
What Happened to Your Old Friendster Blog? No worry, still there and you can still view it by adding “S” after the word blog as shown below.

Yeah, that is a great move by Friendster.
I hope this will make their blog much more better since wordpress has much more possibility to be explored.

How can you put or insert a video to your blog(wordpress)? It’s really confusing…

@ChapChap : When you write a post, you may go to
1st method, click on “Add Media” in your post editor and upload from your computer
2nd method, “HTML” tab and insert youtube video and etc
I would like to know what Chapchap is asking. Video is very hard to insert. Can anyone help us?

@ChapChap : i just did some research, due to security reason, friendster.com wp blogs not support video function at the moment, you can check their FAQ here
I’m really glad that Friendster incorporated Wordpress into it’s blog portion. I’ve recently become a member to keep in touch w/ some of my friends in The UK who don’t really like MySpace and I find it a much more user-friendly environment. Although it’s true that you may only choose a template based on their selection of 21, but I’ve read in certain groups that this number will rise as demand for more functionality and choices are being heard by corporate. Perhaps by next year.
What a great move on Friendster’s part! I love wordpress and have been using it for a long time now.
During the WordCamp Philippines 2008, it was announced that Friendster is working on migrating their blogs to use Wordpress platform.A Private Network, the network where Friendster is classified under, deals with referrals and existing connections.
